FAQs
Product Use
Loop the leash back on itself through the bottom handle of your tow float or dry bag (as shown on the diagram). Then put the waist belt through the loop at the other end of the leash. To adjust the waist belt, simply slide the buckle.
To deflate your tow float or dry bag, use the top of the cap to press on the top of the valve. We find this works best at a 45 degree angle. To deflate the black Boston valve on the Pink Dry Bag and Wild Swim Bag, unscrew the entire valve clockwise until the air is released.
Simply fold the seal over 3 times. There’s an indicator on the back of the bag to show how far down to fold the seal. If you’re storing your phone or electric car keys in your dry bag, then we suggest placing them in a Swim Secure Protective Phone Bag first as an additional layer of protection (and peace of mind).
Our Swim Secure products are designed to float behind you while you swim, staying above your knees and out of the way of your arms and legs. However, if you find your float is getting in your way, you can shorten the leash by doubling it up, looping it around the float’s handle, and passing both end loops over the waist belt.
Strong winds may cause the tow float or dry bag to be blown towards you. So in these conditions we suggest swimming into the wind to avoid the tow float being blown forward.
All of our Swim Secure tow floats and dry bags are designed to give minimal drag. Even the larger dry bags produce less drag than you’d think. Generally, most people don’t feel the bag or float behind them.
Dry bags have a maximum load weight printed on them, under which the buoyancy of the bag will counteract the displacement caused by the contents.
While our waist belts come in varying sizes, they’re also designed to be modular. So you can clip two or more together to extend the length of your waist belt and adjust it to suit you. Check out our individual waist belt.
Our Swim Secure products are made to keep you visible while swimming, not keep you afloat. They’ll float behind you on a short leash attached to a waist belt, but they’re not buoyancy aids.
While our tow floats and dry bags will hold an adult’s weight if necessary, it’s not their main purpose and they’re not intended to be used in this way.
Our Swim Secure products are designed to be waterproof at surface pressure. Dry bags should be folded over at least 3 times to the level shown on the back of the bag. The 3 seals on the bum bags and 2 on the phone bags should be individually closed and the flap secured by the velcro.
If you’re storing your phone or electronic car keys in a tow donut or dry bag, we suggest placing it in a Swim Secure Protective Phone Bag first as an extra layer of protection (and peace of mind).
The Swim Secure Multi-Use Waterproof Bag has been tested to IPX8 standards, so it’s suitable for continuous immersion at depths below 1 metre.
Product Care
Rinse your product with fresh water after every swim and make sure it’s completely dried out before storing it in a cool, dark, dry place.
We’re all for prolonging the life of your product. So yes, it’s possible to seal leaks and seams yourself using waterproof adhesive (we recommend Stormsure). We also provide replacement waist belt and leash sets, straps and valves for certain products.
Your product’s been built to last for many years, but there may come a time when it’s reached the end of its life. So how you dispose of your product depends on what services are available in your area, as the provision of plastic recycling varies between different local authorities across the UK.
Swim Secure products are either made from 100% PVC or from a PVC/vinyl mix, so check to see if your council is able to recycle this type of plastic.
